Somkiat Chantra led the first qualifying for the Moto2 Catalan GP, thus securing a spot in the battle for pole position, alongside Sergio García, Filip Salac, and Barry Baltus.
After most of the riders had posted their first lap times, García (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) was in the lead. Salac (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex), Baltus (Fieten Olie Racing GP/Kalex), and Bo Bendsneyder (Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team/Kalex) were also in qualifying positions.
Bendsneyder moved up to second place, while Salac dropped to fourth after being overtaken also by Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex) on the second flying laps. Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) took the lead with about six minutes remaining, pushing Salac out of the qualifying zone.
With several riders returning to the pits, the timesheet remained stable for a few minutes. In the final laps, Chantra and García held onto the top two positions, while Salac and Baltus overtook Bendsneyder to secure their spots. The Dutch rider missed out on Q2 by just 0.003s.
