Pedro Acosta led the first practice session of the Moto2 San Marino Grand Prix. It was in the final stages of the session that he reached the top of the timesheets definitively, despite consistently being in the top positions.
In the first 15 minutes, there were constant changes in the timesheets and leadership until Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) set a lap time that kept him at the top for about a quarter of an hour.
The Japanese rider was overtaken by his teammate Somkiat Chantra, but in the last ten minutes, Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) was in the spotlight. The Spaniard started a sequence of fast laps, and in his best one, he stopped the clock at 1m36.488s.
It was enough to beat Ogura by 0.191s. Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing/Kalex) finished third, followed by Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) and Bo Bendsneyder (Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team/Kalex) in the top five. Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), second in the championship, could only manage the ninth fastest time.
