Deniz Öncü is through to the second qualifying for the Moto3 Ijndian GP. The Turkish rider dominated Q1 on Saturday at the Buddh International Circuit to secure one of the last four spots in the battle for pole position. Daniel Holgado, the championship leader, was eliminated after his best lap was cancelled.
After the initial flying laps, Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) held the lead, ahead of Kaito Toba (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda), Scott Ogden, and Joshua Whatley (VisionTrack Racing Team/Honda).
Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) managed to climb to the second, pushing Whatley out of the qualification zone. Meanwhile, Öncü continued to strengthen his lead and kept his position throughout the session.
Later on, Ogden reinforced his place in the top four by moving into second place. However, he was overtaken by Holgado, Ryusei Yamanaka (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda), and Toba in the final minute. Ogden managed to recover against Toba to advance to Q2.
After the session ended, Holgado had his fastest lap time invalidated for exceeding track limits.
This situation dropped the championship leader to fifth place, just 0.060 seconds behind the fourth-placed Toba, who secured a spot in Q2. Therefore, Öncü, Yamanaka, Ogden, and Toba advanced.
