Augusto Fernández returned to the top ten results with a ninth-place finish at the MotoGP Catalan GP. The rookie secured his position on the last lap with a overtake on Fabio DiGiannantonio (Gresini/Ducati).
The Spanish rider from GasGas Tech3 believes it was a positive performance and that he could have achieved even more: ‘It was a hard race, but I’m happy with the pace, I’m happy with how I felt on the bike and with how I managed the tyres as well. I felt that I was a little bit faster than the group in front where Jack was. But one thing is to be faster, another thing is to overtake them. I managed to overtake DiGia to take this ninth position, but as I said I missed something to pass the rest of the guys’.
In an overall assessment, Fernández said that his race pace was good, but he needs to start the GP in a better way: ‘Once again we take out not a bad pace on Sunday; we need to start the weekends in a better way to try to hope for better positions on Sunday, because we always have a good pace. But I’m happy with how I felt on the bike and in the race. So, it was a positive race’.
