Jaume Masiá was the fastest rider on the first day of free practice at the Moto3 Catalan GP. Despite not improving between the first and second sessions, the Spanish rider was fast enough to stay on top.
In FP1, Masiá (Leopard Racing) set his best lap time at 1m48.300s, beating Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) by 0.656s. It was a significant margin, although it was slightly reduced with some riders’ improvements in FP2.
In the afternoon session, Ivan Ortolá (Angeluss MTA Team/KTM) posted the fastest time, which placed him 0.402s behind Masiá on the combined timesheet. Colin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) also improved to finish third.
The combined top five was completed by Öncü and Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda) – whose FP1 times prevailed. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) improved in FP2, but the championship leader was only ninth.
