Mattia Casadei is the new MotoE World Champion. Winning in the first race of the San Marino GP would be enough for him to secure the title, and the Italian rider dominated this morning in Misano.
Starting from pole position, Casadei (HP Pons Los40) was initially overtaken, and at the end of the first lap, Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar) was leading. However, Casadei quickly regained the first position.
Nevertheless, Casadei faced fierce competition, fighting hard to secure the win. He crossed the finish line 21 thousandths of a second ahead of Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP). Garzó won the battle for second place against Nicolas Spinelli (HP Pons Los40).
Two riders could have prevented Casadei from becoming champion before this race: Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini), who finished sixth, and Torres, who could only manage tenth after a penalty for a jump start.
