Andrea Mantovani and Mattia Casadei were the winners of the MotoE races at the Catalan GP. The Italian riders showed their superiority over the rivals this afternoon in Barcelona.
In the first race, Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar) started from pole position and led for more than half of the distance until he was overtaken by Casadei (HP Pons Los40) on the fifth lap. Casadei couldn’t hold on to the lead until the end, losing it on the final lap to Mantovani (RNF MotoE Team), who then secured the win by just 44 thousandths of a second. Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP) completed the podium ahead of Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini). Torres, who had led for more than half of the race, faltered in the final stages and finished only seventh.
Different events unfolded in the second race, as Casadei took the lead from Torres on the very first lap. The battle for the lead involved not only these two riders but also many others, including Mantovani, who was strong again once again after his second win of the year.
Decisions were once again made only on the final lap when Casadei claimed the lead for good and then crossed the finish line just 0.072s ahead of Mantovani. Nicolas Spinelli (HP Pons Los40) secured third place, with Garzó and Ferrari rounding out the top five. Torres crashed on the fifth lap and retired.
