In recent days, Miguel Oliveira has been speculated as a possible replacement for Marc Márquez in the upcoming MotoGP season – which would leave a vacant seat at the CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team.
Despite his current contract being strong and valid for a minimum of two years – 2023 and 2024 – the Portuguese rider may find a way to leave his current team, where he is linked to Aprilia.
Sources from Motorcycle Sports in the paddock suggest that RNF may have two back-up plans to Oliveira. Arón Canet and Jake Dixon, who have already been confirmed in Moto2 for 2024, have been mentioned as potential candidates.
While contracts are not always easy to break, the situation could be different in the case of a promotion to MotoGP. It wouldn’t be unprecedented for a rider to be confirmed in the intermediate class before moving up to MotoGP – the most high-profile case was in 2020 when Repsol Honda chose Álex Márquez to replace Jorge Lorenzo.
