Celestino Vietti was the fastest in the third practice session of the Moto2 World Championship in Misano but couldn’t do better than Pedro Acosta yesterday, who held the best lap time of the weekend so far.
The Spanish rider from Red Bull KTM Ajo led the morning session for over fifteen minutes until he was surpassed by Vietti (Fantic Racing/Kalex). The Italian set the best lap time approximately six minutes before the end.
Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) came closest, just 0.182s behind, followed by Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar/Kalex) and Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex), who ended up with identical lap times 0.185s off the pace. Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) and Acosta completed the top five.
Only Acosta didn’t improve his best lap time in the third practice, but the lap time he set in yesterday’s P2 was enough to keep him at the top of the combined timesheet, 0.157s ahead of Vietti.
In 14th place, Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) secured the last direct place in the second qualifying. He was 0.008s faster than Fermín Aldeguer (+Ego SpeedUp/Boscoscuro). Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), second in the championship, will also have to go through Q1 after setting the 19th fastest time in practice.
